This year's annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on April 12 will celebrate the power of business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows, exhibitions and other face-to-face gatherings. Meetings and events professionals from around the world participate in this international day of advocacy, which brings together industry leaders to showcase the real impact that their industry has on people, business and communities.

This year's theme is "Real Results, Real Impact, All Around the World." Last year, more than 120 events were held across six continents -- and we're hoping to break that record. Hosting a GMID event helps get your destination into the spirit, and demonstrates the power of our industry worldwide. Destinations have hosted a wide range of events in the past, from rallies to salon dinners. We encourage you to get creative! If you need some inspiration, check out the events already registered by destinations worldwide.

Once you've planned it, be sure to register your event with the Meetings Mean Business Coalition. Registering your event is free, and it ensures that you receive email updates from around the world. You can also check out some free resources for hosting a great GMID event from Meetings Mean Business, including an event checklist, talking points, sample social media posts, a proclamation template, an elected official invitation template and image files of the GMID logo.

On April 12, we encourage you to:
• Use the #GMID18 hashtag in your social media posts;
• Follow and participate in the online conversation;
• Share your event photos and recaps with MMB, and
• Invite members of the media and elected officials to attend your event and learn about the importance of meetings in your community.
