Local Update

• The Hyatt place Edmonton/Downtown will open by year's end, with 255 guest rooms and more than 11,000 square feet of function space. The hotel will provide easy access to the city's core attractions and business district, including the CN Tower and the Shaw Conference Center. Among amenities: a fitness center, an indoor pool and free Wi-Fi.

 A new luxury property will grace the skyline of Edmonton in 2018, waving the Delta Hotels and Resorts flag. The 362-room hotel (yet to be named) will feature 200 luxury condominiums, a fitness center, a rooftop pool and 24,000 square feet of function space, including a 9,500-square-foot ballroom.

 The 255-room Westin Edmonton Gateway is expected to open in 2017 with a Westin Club Lounge, a full-service restaurant and more than 10,000 square feet of function space.

Group Venue: The MKT Fresh Food & Beer Market, a former train terminal, is now an upscale restaurant offering an authentic Edmonton experience with locally sourced ingredients and some 120 types of beer. A private dining room can host up to 14 guests, while the eatery's upper level can be reserved for up to 200. Menu items range from fries topped with housemade hot sauce, blue cheese, ranch and green onions, to mac n' cheese with an applewood cheddar sauce and bread-crumb topping (bacon, jalapeno peppers and bratwurst optional).
