Local Update
A $20 million renovation project will be completed at the 383-room Fairmont Copley Plaza in time for the property's 100th anniversary in August. Getting upgrades are the guest rooms and the Fairmont Gold Lounge. A new health club opened earlier this year.
The 356-room Revere Hotel debuted in April with approximately 5,000 square feet of meeting space, including the "industrial chic" sixth floor, the 225-seat Theatre 1 and the 6,700-square-foot Space 57.  

Last September, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center unveiled a digital outdoor media tower and an indoor video wall to promote events in the facility. On the table is a proposal to add about 400,000 square feet of exhibit space, 125,000 square feet of meeting space and a new 70,000-square-foot ballroom to the center. A four-year, $30 million renovation of the 412-room Boston Marriott Long Wharf was completed in January. The lobby was redone, a new restaurant called the Waterline added, and the health club and concierge lounge expanded. In addition, all guest rooms were renovated, along with the property's 15,000 square feet of meeting space. The new 3,612-square-foot Harbor View Ballroom opened in October.

The Transportation Security Administration's PreCheck initiative is scheduled to expand to Logan International Airport this year.

A $50 million luxury hotel, the 135-room Seaport Square, is planned for the Fort Point Channel waterfront. The property could open by the end of 2013.

Gemstone Hotels & Resorts has taken over the 143-room Copley Square Hotel, which was built in 1912 and recently underwent a nearly $20 million renovation. The infrastructure was upgraded along with the guest rooms, dining facilities and public spaces.
