Greater Chicago
Public Chicago, the much-anticipated boutique property from Ian Schrager, opened last October in the former Ambassador East Hotel. The 285-room hotel offers 8,600 square feet of meeting space, including a 17th-floor room with an expansive terrace.

Last November saw the opening of the 334-room Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel Chicago. The downtown property has more than 28,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including 13 configurable meeting rooms and an additional 7,000 square feet of outdoor space.

The 184-room Hotel Lincoln opened in May in the lush Lincoln Park district. The Joie de Vivre property features 1,000 square feet of meeting space, including a rooftop bar with a terrace that can hold up to 175 people.

Several downtown hotels are adding capacity and upgrading. Perhaps most notable, the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place has broken ground on an expansion project that would add a hefty 461 rooms to its current 800. The work is expected to be completed by June 2013.

In more expansion news, the 185-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott expects to unveil 181 new rooms in December 2013, while the 274-room Aloft Chicago City Center is planning a 274-room expansion, to finish in 2014.
