Local Update
Next month, the hotel
component of AEG's sports, entertainment and hotel project, L.A. Live, will open downtown near the Staples Center. The $2.5 billion development includes the 879-room JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles, with 77,000 square feet of meeting space; the 123-room Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles; and the 224-room Ritz-Carlton Residences. The project's Club Nokia, which holds 2,300 people, and the 7,100-seat Nokia Theatre L.A., opened recently. Other features on-site include a 14-screen cinema and dozens of dining, retail and entertainment options. The total meeting space offered by all venues is 260,480 square feet.

On the Palos Verdes peninsula, about a 30-minute drive south of Los Angeles, the 582-room Terranea Resort opened last June. Features include 60,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, a nine-hole golf course and a 25,000-square-foot spa.

Last fall, the 726-room
Hyatt Regency Century Plaza finished a renovation of its Plaza Level meeting area, which features two junior ballrooms and 12,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel's infinity pool was updated, and cabanas with Wi-Fi capabilities were added. Private events can take place poolside.

A guest room upgrade at the 453-room Omni Los Angeles Hotel in California Plaza is under way and will finish in September. Also part of the revamp is an upgrade of the lobby and all public spaces.

The New Otani Hotel
has been renamed the Kyoto Grand Hotel and Gardens. Guest rooms were renovated, and a lobby upgrade was wrapping up at press time.

Hilton CheckersThe 188-room Hilton Checkers Los Angeles has finished a makeover of its lobby, bar, guest rooms and 3,300 square feet of meeting space. The hotel features a rooftop deck with a bar that is available for private events, as well as a recently upgraded patio to accompany the Checkers Downtown restaurant.

The Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles has a new restaurant called La Bistecca Italian-style Steakhouse.

The 207-room The Standard-Downtown LA recently finished restyling its Loft meeting spaces. A rooftop pool and bar with panoramic city views and a 24-hour restaurant are available for group use.
