Local Update
A new restaurant opens this month at the 175-room Waldorf Astoria Park City, but its focus and name still are being determined. It replaces Spruce, an outpost of the San Francisco eatery founded by chef Mark Sullivan. The property offers about 5,300 square feet of meeting space. Currently being built around the resort is the Canyons Golf Course, which will open in 2013.

Plenty of changes have been made or are in progress at The Canyons resort, promising new appeal for groups. Two zip lines, which will be available year-round, open on the mountain in August. Now that the new orange bubble ski lift is up and running, the property's on-mountain restaurant, Lookout Cabin, is available for private groups of up to 100, also year-round. A new miniature-golf course is open for play at the base of the mountain. The Cabin restaurant at the 358-room Grand Summit hotel is being converted to meeting space; construction on the venue should finish up in July.

The 220-room Montage Deer Valley opened last December, in time to host M&C's annual Meeting and Incentive Summit. The ski resort on Deer Valley's Empire Pass features more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space and 35,000 square feet of outdoor event space. The spacious rooms all have gas fireplaces and a mountain or a valley view. An outpost of Compass Sports on property provides ski rentals and other equipment for mountain activities. Apex is the resort's fine-dining option.

The 199-room Park City Marriott has opened a new 2,072-square-foot meeting room called the Silver Mine. The room offers Wi-Fi and views of Park City Mountain. The property has 10,000 square feet of meeting space.

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts has taken over a property at The Canyons, now the 178-suite Hyatt Escala Lodge at Park City. The hotel was open for limited service this winter; its food-and-beverage outlets, including a restaurant and store, will be fully open by November. The Hyatt will have 4,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space, scheduled to be available by September.
