 The Sheraton Bloomington in Minneapolis has completed a $15 million renovation of its 282 guest rooms and lobby, and has added a new restaurant and three meeting rooms. The hotel now offers a total of more than 17,000 square feet for meetings and events.

• In Atlantic City, the 942-room Resorts Casino Hotel has unveiled its new 12,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Resort Conference Center, which gives the property more than 64,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

 The 267-room Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit in Mexico has completed a $20 million renovation that upgraded nearly half the guest rooms, added a steam room to the spa and redesigned the on-site Restaurant Piaf.

• The Sheraton College Park North Hotel in College Park, Md., has completed a $5 million renovation that included a refresh of the property's 207 guest rooms by adding new Sheraton Sweet Sleep beds, enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity and more. The hotel also added the Asade Brasserie, a chic 60-seat restaurant featuring upscale international cuisine. The hotel has a total of 5,410 square feet of function space, including a 3,610-square-foot ballroom that can accommodate up to 250 people.

• The 250-room Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla., has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its Peyton House accommodations and Atlantic oceanfront Surf Club, while also introducing the new 3,000-square-foot Tavern Lounge and upgraded Wi-Fi system. The property has more than 25,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space and a 30,000-square-foot luxury spa.

• The Omni King Edward Hotel in Toronto completed a $40 million restoration that included a renovation and modernization of its guest rooms, meeting spaces, lobby and restaurant. The hotel's 301 guest rooms received new furnishings, custom bedding and enhancements to its vintage crown moldings and bathrooms, while the lobby's historic decorative plasterwork on the ceiling and wood-paneled walls were restored. All 22,000 square feet of meeting space also was upgraded, including the Sovereign Ballroom, which received four new teardrop crystal chandeliers.

Italian masterpiece. The 104-room Mandarin Oriental Milan has opened within four 18th-century buildings around the corner from La Scala. The hotel has two sleek meeting rooms hosting a total of 120 seated or 160 for cocktails, plus a spa with six treatment rooms, the fine-dining Seta restaurant and the spectacular Mandarin Bar (pictured).

More Debuts

 The 165-room DoubleTree by Hilton Decatur Riverfront has opened in historic downtown Decatur, Ala. Formerly a Garden Plaza hotel, the property closed in November 2014 to undergo a $10 million transformation that included a total redesign of the exterior and lobby, an update of all guest rooms and suites, an expansion of the meeting space and a renovation of the atrium. The hotel offers an indoor/outdoor pool and sun deck, a 24-hour fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi in all pubic areas and guest rooms. Meeting space totals 8,901 square feet, including nine meeting rooms and a 4,300-square-foot ballroom, all of which can accommodate events of up to 650 people.

 Due to open at press time is the 248-room Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix North. The hotel includes indoor and outdoor heated pools; a fully equipped fitness center; complimentary Wi-Fi access; the Spice restaurant, with an eclectic menu of American, Mediterranean and Indian-inspired dishes; and more than 17,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including 13 meeting rooms with flexible configurations. 

 In Ocean City, Md., on the Atlantic coast, the Bethany Beach Ocean Suites has opened with 112 suites (each with a private balcony); a full-service spa; oceanfront dining at 99 Sea Level; and 4,400 square feet of meeting and event space, including a grand ballroom that can host up to 300 people. Propertywide complimentary Wi-Fi extends onto the beach, so bring the laptop along with the lotion.

• The 67-room Charmant Hotel has opened in downtown, La Crosse, Wis., along the Mississippi River. The upscale property represents a $30 million renovation and restoration of the landmark former headquarters of the Joseph B. Funke Candy Co., built in 1898. Several on-site meeting spaces include the Serenada room, which accommodates up to 40 people, the 20-seat Royal Crown boardroom  and an elegant prefunction area. 

• In New York state, about 25 miles north of New York City, the 156-room DoubleTree by Hilton Nanuet has opened. Features include an indoor solarium-style pool with retractable roof, an indoor hot tub, an outdoor sun deck, the Windsor Grille Bar and Lounge offering locally sourced ingredients, and 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting space able to accommodate up to 410 people.

• In Richmond, Va., the 75-room Quirk Hotel, a Destination Hotel, opened Sept. 17, with 3,000 square feet of meeting space. The property takes its name from the adjacent Quirk Gallery; a courtyard leads to the art space and can be used for small events.
