A new classic. Set for a Sept. 30 launch is the 359-room Mondrian London at Sea Containers, overlooking the Thames River in the trendy South Bank district. Designed to evoke the "Golden Age of Transatlantic Travel," the property will offer F&B from famed restaurateur Seamus Mullen and more than 5,500 feet of flexible event space.

More Debuts
The just-opened 1,600-room SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino is the newest resort to debut on the Strip in five years. The property comprises three towers (dubbed Story, Lux and World) and has three nightclubs (including a 20,000-square-foot venue called Life); a 60,000-square-foot casino; nine restaurants; and 80,000 square feet of flexible event space, including a 9,000-square-foot ballroom.

In Florida, nine miles from Tampa International Airport, the 130-room Aloft Tampa Downtown is now open. All guest rooms feature 42-inch flat-screen TVs, Bliss bath amenities, Rainforest showers and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet. The hotel has 685 square feet of meeting space.

Last month saw the debut of the 172-room  Le Méridien Chicago-Oakbrook Center, just steps from the Oakbrook Shopping Center and its chic retail outlets. For dining, the Longitude 87 Bar and Restaurant is on-site. The hotel has 3,500 square feet of event space spread among seven rooms, the largest of which is the 3,000-square-foot Grand Salon.

In Maui, Hawaii, the Montage Kapalua Bay has opened with 50 suites, each with its own large lanai overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On-site dining options include Cane & Canoe, designed like a traditional Hawaiian canoe house and serving local fare, as well as the poolside Sunset Patio. Groups can meet in the 2,000-square-foot glass Sunset Room and on five ocean-view event lawns.
