• Monaco Carbon Offsetting (, a program set up by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, gives groups the opportunity to offset the greenhouse gas emissions from their events' activities and travel.

• The 218-room Novotel Monte Carlo received ISO 14001 certification in March following yearlong environmental upgrades. The effort is  part of Accor Hotel's sustainable development program, Planet 21, which aims to certify 40 percent of the group's hotels by 2015.

Monaco, the jewel-like principality nestled between the French and Italian Rivieras, continues to enrich its reputation as a center of glamor, gastronomy, sustainability and culture.

Gastronomy News
Though Monaco is roughly the size of New York City's Central Park, it has 170 restaurants and dining outlets. Here, eating well is an art, whether it be a tasty barbagiuan (pastry stuffed with savory fillings) from a stand at the Condamine Market or a gourmet meal at one of five Michelin-starred restaurants. Not surprisingly, the newest venues for groups all promise a memorable dining experience.
The Condamine Market, with its charming stalls of colorful flowers and fresh local produce, now hosts private events of up to 350 guests indoors year-round, while the seasonal outdoor market can accommodate up to 1,500.

A branch of famed eatery Nobu has debuted at the 602-room Fairmont Monte Carlo; the restaurant features fusion dishes that combine traditional Japanese cuisine with South American ingredients. Groups of up to 40 can be seated for dinner.

Hotel and Venue update
One of Monaco's famed luxury properties, the 150-year-old Hôtel de Paris, above, will embark on a four-year renovation this fall. The 182-room property will close from early October until mid-December 2014 for preliminary work, reopen for the winter holidays and then begin the main revamp in January 2015. The project is slated for completion in September 2018. (Note: The hotel will remain open throughout the 2015-2018 work period.)

The Grimaldi Forum, the Principality's waterfront convention venue, has completed the third and final phase of an ambitious three-year renovation project. The latest upgrades include enhancements to the lighting system, installation of state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment and new signage. The venue has an exhibition center spanning approximately 106,000 square feet, plus three auditoriums, 22 meeting rooms and two other event spaces.

The beautifully verdant Princess Grace Rose Garden, in the Fontvieille district, will reopen next month following a yearlong refurbishment. Private events can be arranged through a local destination management company such as Lafayette Monaco, with permission from the government.
