The view from the 400-room Royal Sonesta Boston in Cambridge is the big city's skyline across the Charles River, particularly lovely as the sun goes down.

Home to M&C's Destination New England hosted-buyer event in May, the hotel showcased numerous upgrades that were finished last October, including 200 refurbished rooms, a reconfigured lobby and a new coffee shop. The new Longfellow Suites and a terrace on the Charles River, all with views of the waterfront, have added 2,100 square feet to the property's 26,000 square feet of meeting space.

Boston Duck Tours, a fleet of amphibious World War II vehicles that roam the streets and the river, draw attention to the city's vibrant history with a strong dose of humor.
