The Detroit Marriott
By investing half a billion
dollars to revitalize the 73-floor Detroit Marriott
Renaissance Center, corporate owner General Motors hopes to set off
a rebirth of Motown’s downtown.
The complex of black towers comprises the automaker’s global
headquarters and the 1,289-room Marriott, as well as a growing
array of shops, fine restaurants and attractions such as the
elegant Seldom Blues music club.
The redesigned center now has 72 meeting rooms and 100,000
square feet of meeting space and can host up to 2,200 for
receptions or banquets. Visitors cruise the facility via the
“circulation ring,” a 12-foot-wide glass walkway suspended by steel
rods over vintage and experimental GM cars on display below.
