The 176-room Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, Calif., conjures a laid-back, retro-chic vibe, transporting guests to a bygone era.

Set on the grounds of a modernized 1950s motel, the property merges vintage design -- like record players in the guest rooms -- with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi throughout the resort.

Fire pits and public patios offer space for congregating, making the complex feel more like a private retreat than a hotel. For meetings, the new two-level, 4,000-square-foot Clubhouse and balcony overlooks the pool area. The hotel also offers the 3,000-square-foot Commune for groups. Fine diner fare is served at the King's Highway, and specialty cocktails and craft beers in the Amigo Room.
