Consider organizing a "donation dash" during meetings to quickly and effectively raise funds for a local cause. Organizers first choose a charity with a specific need (for example, $3,200 for new linens for the Ronald McDonald House of Chicago) and then get the word out to attendees, via email, before the event. During the event, volunteers collect money from attendees. The total collection is announced during the session, allowing individuals to add funds if the goal hasn't been met. The activity works best for seated meals and sessions.
