Weather
Carmel is known for its year-round moderate climate. Backed by mountains and enclosed within a bay, it has its own microclimate marked by changeable weather patterns. Typically, winter days are clear and crisp beneath bright blue skies; mornings and evenings are chilly. Spring begins in February and can bring some beautifully clear, warm days. Surprisingly, May is usually the hottest month of the year, before the coastal summer morning fog sets in.
The area's coastal fog rolls in during late spring and early summer, blanketing Carmel in chill; the fog, however, burns off by midday, and afternoons are sunny and warm. By autumn, the fog disappears and Carmel basks in gorgeous sunshine. The wet season is usually October-May. The Carmel Valley is typically immune from the coastal fogs.
The average annual temperature is 64 F/18 C, with an average high of 70 F/21 C in summer and an average winter high of 61 F/16 C. The average low in the summer is 51 F/11 C. Spring and fall months offer the best weather, with average highs of 72 F/22 C.
