Weather
Because of its proximity to the Alps, the weather in Munich can be unpredictable, with summer not always warm and winter not always cold, with a generally temperate but changeable climate. A unique weather pattern called a "Foehn" is a warm, dry wind that blows across the Alps from Italy, occasionally resulting in clear skies but also causing headaches to weather-sensitive people.
It's wet and cold with some snow in winter. January is usually the coldest month, with highs around 35 F/2 C and lows around 23 F/-5 C. Spring is a mixed bag of rain and sun, warming up a bit in May, which is often a very lovely month. Expect a weeklong "heat wave" in summer, when temperatures rise above 86 F/30 C. September and October can be beautiful months, with clear blue skies and warm temperatures. There is moderate rainfall throughout the year, with the heaviest doses coming May-August.
