As of press time, the 3,800 Air Canada airport customer-service agents and call-center employees in Canada continue the strike that began Monday. In a statement posted on its website, the carrier says, "We are very disappointed that an agreement with the CAW [Canadian Auto Workers] leadership has not been reached, leading call-center and airport customer-service agents in Canada to take strike action." The airline maintains that its full flight schedule will remain in operation during the strike and recommends that customers check in online or via their mobile devices within 24 hours of their flight's departure and, if possible, avoid traveling with checked baggage. According to news reports, Labour Minister Lisa Raitt announced yesterday that striking employees would be forced back to work in order to protect the economic recovery and reduce disruptions to Canadians' travel plans, but at press time, no action had been announced.
