American Airlines posted a 2.5 percent year-over-year increase in passenger traffic for March, and a load-factor increase of 2.6 percent, to 81.7 percent. Capacity decreased slightly, 0.7 percent, compared to last year. American also announced last week a number of initiatives related to its New York City service. Beginning this summer, the carrier will add 23 daily flights to seven new destinations from JFK and LaGuardia airports. Also, American and JetBlue have formed a partnership, which will provide JetBlue passengers with access to American's international flights, and American passengers with service to JetBlue's domestic destinations not serviced by American. In addition, American will upgrade its terminal facilities at the two New York airports as well as its NYC-based aircraft, and has formed a new marketing partnership with the city's official tourism organization, NYC and Company.
