American Airlines has introduced the latest in its Your Choice line of unbundled products and services. So-called Express Seats refers to seats in the first few rows of coach, as well as bulkhead seats, and can be purchased only via airport self-service check-in machines. Customers who purchase such a seat are able to board in Group 1 of general boarding. The cost starts at $19 per seat, per flight, based on distance. For instance, Express Seats from St. Louis to Chicago O'Hare are $19 extra, while the New York JFK to Los Angeles route carries a $39 surcharge. Members with AAdvantage elite status or Oneworld elite status, as well as customers who purchase full-fare tickets, will continue to have exclusive access to preferred seating on a complimentary basis.
