A U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved the settlement Wednesday, ending the lawsuit over the proposed merger of American Airlines and US Airways, thus paving the way for the merger's close. In response, American Airlines parent company AMR Corp. filed a notice proposing that the merger close and the company's reorganization plan take effect on Dec. 9. Assuming that schedule, the last day of trading AMR's current shares will be Dec. 6. As of Monday, Dec. 9, the combined company will be renamed American Airlines Group and trade on the NASDAQ exchange under the symbol AAL.
