Delta Air Lines began charging new fees for checked baggage on a number of routes, for tickets purchased as of Oct. 1. For travel on or after Oct. 15, the airline now charges $40 for the second bag on flights between the U.S. or Canada and Central America, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Guyana or Haiti. For flights between North or South America (excluding Brazil) and Asia, New Zealand or Europe, the second bag is now $60 if checked in online and $75 if checked in at the airport. The first checked bag on these routes remains free. Beginning Nov. 1, flights between the U.S. or Canada and the Caribbean will charge $25 for the first checked bag and $40 for the second. At that same time, the second bag checked for flights between North or South America (excluding Brazil) and India, the Middle East or Southern Africa will incur a $60 fee if checked online and a $75 fee if checked at the airport.
