In February, Qantas will begin a pilot program to test Wi-Fi services on six of its A380 planes flying between Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles and between Melbourne, Australia, and Los Angeles. The service, provided by OnAir, uses Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband and global satellite-based connections to transfer data. During the trial, only passengers in first and business classes will be able to connect. Qantas previously announced it would commence run a trial offering in-flight entertainment to passengers on its B767-300 planes using iPads provided for each seat. That trial begins in January.
