The CEOs of the Star Alliance network unanimously approved the membership of Air India Tuesday, which would make the carrier the first Indian airline to join a global network. Air India should be able to offer Star Alliance benefits beginning July 11. "We look forward to welcoming Air India passengers," said Star Alliance COO Jeffrey Goh. "At the same time we are pleased to be providing our existing customers improved access to a region that includes the world’s fifth-largest domestic aviation market." Air India will add 400 daily flights and access to 35 new destinations in India to the network.
