The cost of business travel continued to grow in the first quarter, according to data just released from American Express Global Business Travel. Average domestic airfares were up by 6 percent over the first quarter of 2011, while average international fares climbed by 4 percent. The average domestic hotel room rate shot up by 5 percent year over year, while the average international hotel rate climbed by a more meager 1 percent. "Prices rose in the first quarter as companies put travelers on the road to jumpstart 2012 business goals, while supply remained relatively tight," noted Amex Expert Insights research director Christa Degnan Manning.
