The Global Business Travel Association announced yesterday it was creating a Global Meetings Task Force, which will take the place of the Groups and Meetings Committee. The new task force, to be led by Linda McNairy, vice president of strategic partner management for StarCite, will strive to enhance meetings strategy in global business travel education and attempt to accelerate thought leadership, industry collaboration and best practices. The task force will specifically focus on strategic meetings management, bringing that topic to the forefront of travel management discussions. “Meetings management is always a big focus for GBTA, and through this task force we are striving to take this essential piece of the travel management practice even further,” explained GBTA executive director Michael McCormick in a statement. “Our goal is to have a global impact on everyone involved in meetings management, from planning and executing to managing the overall meetings strategy within an organization.” Industry visionaries and practitioners, including some from the former Groups and Meetings Committee, will comprise the task force along with McNairy. Early next year, the task force will outline a new strategic vision for global SMM.
