Gary Sain, 61, president and CEO of Visit Orlando, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last Friday night. He collapsed after delivering opening remarks at this year's Celebrate the Children fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida at the Orlando World Center Marriot, and was pronounced dead a short time later at Florida Hospital. The cause of death was unknown, pending an autopsy. Sain, who has spent his entire career in the hospitality industry, most recently served as Visit Orlando's leader and brand ambassador, working to further the city and the entire travel and tourism industry. "The industry has lost a true leader whose passion for travel and tourism was second to none," U.S. Travel CEO Roger Dow told Travel Weekly,M&C's sister publication, Saturday. "His presence on the U.S. Travel executive committee and board has been instrumental in helping advance a host of industry initiatives, from travel promotion to promoting the value of meetings to elevating the production of international Pow Wow."
