Effective July 1, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau will become part of Houston First Corp., the public/private group that runs the George R. Brown Convention Center and nine other city buildings and outdoor areas. This follows the approval of the GHCVB's executive committee and board of directors, and Houston First's board, creating a single voice for the promotion of the city. "The alignment of our two great organizations will help position [Houston] for a bright future," said Dawn Ullrich, president and CEO of HFC. Current employees of the GHCVB will become employees of HFC, and there are no plans to lay off staff from either entity.
