Michael Van Parys has been named acting president of the Greater Hartford (Conn.) Convention & Visitors Bureau, replacing H. Scott Phelps, who left at the end of May following 30 years at the organization. Phelps was honored at an awards dinner on June 3. Van Parys has been the bureau's executive vice president of sales for the past five years. According to the bureau, Phelps did not retire, but they declined to reveal why he left. A search for a new head has not been launched yet.
