Milton Segarra, president and CEO of Meet Puerto Rico, has announced he has accepted a new position as CEO of Visit Mississippi Gulf Coast. His last day with Meet Puerto Rico is Dec. 15, and he begins  his new post on Jan. 8. His appointment comes seven months after the board members of Visit Mississippi Gulf Coast voted not to extend the contract of former executive director Renee Areng, according to press reports.

In a statement released Tuesday, Segarra said "I have enjoyed my tenure at Meet Puerto Rico and am proud of all the work my team and I have accomplished here on behalf of my beautiful home. Leaving is bittersweet. However, I know I leave the meetings industry in good hands here… The commitment, determination and optimism I have experienced here … I will always cherish. Even though I will miss my colleagues, clients and the company, I am looking forward to starting a new phase of my career."

Holder of a CDME (certified destination management executive) credential, Segarra is a member of both the board of directors and the finance committee of Destinations International. He has been a prominent force during Puerto Rico's ongoing recovery from Hurricane Maria's devastation. Meet Puerto Rico has not yet announced who will take his place in the interim.
