Visit Oakland, the California city's official destination marketing organization, has promoted Rhanee Palma, CDME, to chief sales officer. She is the first Filipina-American to hold a C-Suite position with the company, and one of the first in the history of the CVB/DMO industry, according to a news release.

Palma joined the Visit Oakland team in 2016 as director of sales, after working for Hilton San Fransisco Financial District and a long career before that in group and area sales for Marriott International. Most recently, Palma was serving as vice president of sales and services for Visit Oakland. In her new role, she will lead all organization sales efforts, as well as strengthen existing client relationships, with the goal of driving more hotel development in the area.

"Rhanee Palma is an integral leader of Visit Oakland, and we are thrilled to promote her to this position," said Mark Everton, president and CEO of the organization. "With this promotion, Rhanee will continue to bring her expertise to our organization and continue making a positive economic impact on the Oakland community."

Palma earned her Certified Destination Management Executive certification in 2019. She is a member of and has held numerous leadership roles in many industry organizations, including the Professional Convention Management Association, Meeting Professionals International, American Society of Association Executives and CalSAE, the California Society of Association Executives. She is currently serving on the Destinations International 2020 convention sales and services committee.

Visit Oakland has also been honored with a 2019 Gold Stella Award by Northstar Meetings Group for best CVB/DMO of the Far West region.
