TourismOhio has named Matthew MacLaren Esq. as its new director. MacLaren most recently was senior vice president of member relations for the American Hotel & Lodging Association, where he oversaw membership, business development, partner-state association relations and research.

In the three years he held that post, MacLaren doubled partnership revenue. Membership in the association grew to more than 25,000 properties - representing more than 3 million hotel rooms - during his tenure, an all-time high for the organization. Among the research initiatives he oversaw was the 2016 AHLA Economic Impact of the U.S. Hotel Industry study.

MacLaren, an Ohio native, was previously president and CEO of the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association. That organization reached record membership levels as well on his watch. He is a graduate of Ohio State University and Capital University Law School.

"I am excited to lead TourismOhio and increase recognition of 'Ohio. Find It Here,'" noted MacLaren. "This experiential marketing campaign will help visitors connect with Ohio and visit more often. Now is the time to align with the Ohio tourism industry and work together to showcase the people and places that make a visit memorable."

MacLaren's new role officially begins in January 2018.
