Under legislation passed last week, Visit Florida, the state's tourism promotion agency, will continue operating as an independent entity. The organization was being threatened by bills that would have dissolved the group and created a new government agency called the Jobs Florida Partnership Inc., whose revenues would have been pooled and doled out by a board chaired by Gov. Rick Scott. Local companies and tourism groups threatened to cease joint advertising if Visit Florida's finances were run by a board with little tourism experience, an action that helped turn the tide in favor of Visit Florida.
