Meg Winchester, CMP, will begin her tenure as president and CEO of Visit Spokane (Wash.) on Jan. 22. She comes to the convention and visitor bureau from her previous role as the director of the Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau in Texas.
"Meg will be a great addition to the team," said Matt Jensen, corporate director of sales and marketing for Davenport Hotels and Visit Spokane's current board chair. "Tourism is a $1.3 billion industry in greater Spokane, so her understanding and experience will be invaluable. She recognizes that tourism and conventions are important to Spokane's quality of life and economy."
During her time in Galveston, Winchester was on the ground in 2008 when Hurricane Ike devastated the region. She was instrumental there in rebuilding and increasing tourism revenue and visitation year-over-year. She is joining a CVB that helped bring in an estimated $1.3 billion in visitor spending in 2017, providing jobs for more than 10,000 residents in Spokane County, according to a report from Dean Runyan Assoc.
"I fell in love with Spokane from the moment I set foot in it," said Winchester. "I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to make this my home and help promote it."
