Carnival Cruise Line will implement a $300 million program to significantly enhance emergency-power capabilities, introduce new fire-safety technology and improve the level of operating procedures across its entire 24-ship fleet. The actions are being taken to improve the comfort of guests in case of the loss of main power and to reinforce key shipboard operating systems to further prevent a potential loss of primary power. The improvement plan comes after a comprehensive operational review by the company, initiated immediately after the high-profile Carnival Triumph fire in February. The initial upgrades will take place during the next several months.
