Crystal Cruises will expand its fleet with three 1,000-passenger vessels, its first new ships in decades. The first new ship will set sail in 2018.

All three vessels will be built to sail in polar waters, and each will have 48 residences ranging from 600 to 4,000 square feet for sale. The residences will be on the top decks and will have nine-foot ceilings. Other amenities include an exclusive restaurant.

The cruise line also is expanding in other ways: Late this year, Crystal Esprit, a 62-passenger all-suite yacht with features including a two-passenger submarine, will begin sailing warm-water itineraries to destinations such as the Seychelles, Dubai, Italy and Croatia. In 2017, the company will launch river cruises and luxury jet service.

Regarding the expansion, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman of Crystal's parent firm Genting Hong Kong, said, "Our intent is to make Crystal Cruises the core of what will become the world's premier luxury-hospitality and lifestyle-brand portfolio, not only for the immediate future but for years to come."
