The new year promises new hotels, with about 207,000 rooms under construction in the U.S. as of press time, according to Jan Freitag, senior vice president of lodging insights at STR. While the majority of those are in the limited-service segment, 22,769 guest rooms in the upper tiers should be ready to roll out the red carpet for groups next year

Following is a preview of some of the most anticipated grand openings for 2020.

Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley, Arizona

• Opening in summer 2020

Paradise Valley, the affluent suburb of Phoenix, will finally get its promised luxury property when the Ritz-Carlton opens next summer. The property will span 20 acres of citrus orchards and gardens with the Camelback, Mummy and McDowell mountains as backdrop. In addition to 215 guest units, made up of luxury suites and detached casitas, plans call for 20,000 square feet of event space. Among other highlights: an expansive spa, a health and fitness center, and an amphitheater. Eateries will emphasize seasonal produce from the resort's herb garden and citrus orchard

The Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley, will be the centerpiece of a $2 billion, 122-acre community called the Palmeraie, with space for 70 boutiques and restaurants, also set to open in 2020.
