A total of 22 groups have applied to submit bids to build and operate four gaming resorts in Upstate New York, according to press reports. Among the firms who paid the $1 million fee to be considered are Caesars Entertainment, Empire Resorts, Genting Group (operator of the casino at Aqueduct Raceway in Queens) and Grossinger Development (a partnership between Muss Development and the operators of the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut). The bids are due by June; winners will be announced in the fall, and the chosen developers will have two years from the time they are selected to open their resorts. Possible sites for the properties include the lower Hudson Valley and the Catskills.
