Hotel operator Accor yesterday unveiled its Carbon Optimizer tool, which will allow meeting planners to analyze and reduce an event's carbon footprint. The interactive tool combines an extensive set of variables, including the number of participants, how many nights they will stay, the duration of seminars, the size of meeting rooms and more. The calculator also takes into account indirect emissions associated with organizing seminars, such as waste treatment, and paper and food use. Customers will be able to choose menus based on their carbon footprint and make more responsible choices in the planning stages. By the end of 2012, all Accor sales teams across approximately 2,000 hotels worldwide will have access to the Carbon Optimizer and will be able to aid clients in its use.
