The German National Tourist Board has been awarded the Green Globe Certificate in recognition of sustainability in travel; it is the first national tourism body to receive the distinction. The Green Globe Certification Standard assesses the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses based on environmentally friendly practices, social responsibility and economic profitability. "We have been promoting sustainability as a core marketing theme for travel destination Germany for many years and regard it as one of the principle responsibilities of our organization. Our goal is the international positioning of Germany as a sustainable travel destination," said Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the German National Tourist Board, in a statement.
