AMResorts' parent company, Apple Leisure Group, has entered into a strategic alliance with Spain's Grupo Inversor Hesperia to operate four Hesperia resorts, beginning in 2019. The move follows Hesperia's break with NH, and it gives AMResorts the opportunity to expand into Europe.
Currently, AMResorts encompasses seven brands in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. Its portfolio includes 55 resorts and 21,000 rooms, plus another 10,000 in development, across the Breathless, Dreams, Now, Reflect, Sunscape Resorts & Spas, and Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts brands.
The four Hesperia island resorts will be rebranded next year and are scheduled to debut as follows: Secrets Mallorca Villamil Resort & Spa, in March 2019; Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, in the Canary Islands, in May 2019; Amigo Fuerteventura Resort (currently the Hesperia Bristol Playa) in the Canary Islands, in May 2019; and Dreams Lanzarote Resort & Spa, in November 2019. All of the properties will offer several models of F&B, all-inclusive among them.
As part of the deal, Grupo Inversor Hesperia will invest nearly US$23 million in renovations to adhere to AMResorts' brand standards.
"The clients and partners that work with our resort brands have been asking, for a long time now, to develop our product in the Mediterranean," said Javier Coll, executive vice president and chief strategy officer with Apple Leisure Group. "We are proud to take such an important step, side-by-side with the entire Hesperia team, and, also, to do so with such iconic assets as the four hotels with which we are marking our entry in this new region."
Apple Leisure Group now has offices in Spain's Palma de Mallorca as part of the deal, and seeks to expand further in the region.
Grupo Inversor Hesperia has 28 hotels in its portfolio in a variety of urban and leisure destinations throughout Spain.
