According to the Austin Business Journal, on Thursday the city council passed a resolution asking the city manager to develop a plan to bring a new large-scale hotel to town. The action follows a call from mayor Lee Leffingwell to bring more conventions to Austin. In other news, the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched a new tool to solicit convention business. Called the Five-Minute Meeting Planner, the online application allows planners to enter basic event details and to compare the area hotels and vendors that can best accommodate their events. The tool is available here.
