On Nov. 13, the 312-room Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, will begin a major renovation and expansion, spending more than $150 million to add more than 180 rooms to the golf retreat, bringing the total to 493 guest rooms. The construction is expected to be completed by mid-2019.

The new designs for the resort, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in September, will take inspiration from its Hill Country surroundings, looking to blur the lines between indoors and outdoors.

"We've always prided ourselves on offering guests true Texas hospitality, and now that we are evolving the physical aspects, we expect Omni Barton Creek to be one of the most sought-after resort destinations in the South," said David Jurcak, managing director of the resort.

The new guest rooms will be built in a resort tower, the existing guest rooms will be redesigned, and the meeting space will expand with a new conference center, ballroom and event pavilion. Six new dining outlets are in the plans, as well as a new Mokara Spa, a reconceived lobby experience, an expanded poolscape and a new golf clubhouse. The four iconic golf courses will be renovated, and a new tennis complex will be built.

The new lobby design will take cues from the living room of a Hill Country home, adding floor-to-ceiling windows and a wraparound porch to take advantage of the views. A multi-tiered pool deck will be just beyond the porch and will feature three pools, including an infinity-edge pool overlooking the 18th green of the Fazio Foothills golf course.

The new dining establishments will include a Bob's Steak & Chop House, a fresh seafood restaurant, a Latin restaurant and pool grill, a sports lounge and a coffee market. The new golf clubhouse near the Fazio Canyons course will offer the Canyons Grill.

The meeting space, which is currently a sizable 43,000 square feet, will grow with the new Pavilion and grand ballroom, as well as six new meeting rooms and additional prefunction space in the new conference center. All existing meeting rooms will be redone as well.

Omni Hotels & Resorts' signature Mokara Spa will be a 13,000-square-foot sanctuary with a rooftop garden and an adults-only pool. The new fitness center, with an indoor pool, will be one of the largest in the Omni portfolio, offering state-of-the-art equipment with a variety of cardio machines, free weights, and a mix of classes from yoga to spin.
