Singapore-based luxury hotel group Banyan Tree has launched a new brand, Dhawa, named after the Dhawa tree in East India. The first hotel is scheduled to open in Bo'ao, an eastern coastal town on Hainan Island in China, in March 2016. It will be followed by Dhawa Cayo Las Brujas, which will open in Cuba in July 2016.

These two new properties will be followed by additional openings in the Chinese cities of Pu'er, Leishan and Luo Yang, as well as in Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand. Dhawa is part of a strategic global expansion for the Banyan Tree Group, which plans to grow its current portfolio of 30 hotels and resorts to 66 by 2019. The Dhawa brand will call its guest rooms "cocoons," while bathrooms will be known as "pods" and will come equipped with a rain shower, LED mood lighting, spa-branded amenities and Bluetooth music speakers.
