On May 6, Barcelo Hotels & Resorts will begin a US$45 million renovation of its five-property, 2,751-room Barcelo Maya resort complex in Mexico's Riviera Maya. The project will focus primarily on the Maya Beach and Maya Caribe properties. The lobbies of both resorts will be completely redone, and each resort will open new bars and two new √† la carte restaurants. A new Barcelo Maya Entertainment Center will debut as well, with a sports bar, a bowling alley, a teen disco, a kids club, a water park, paddle tennis courts and a revamped 18-hole miniature golf course. The first phase of the two-part construction will encompass the lobby upgrades, a new premium lounge club, a new hospitality area, the addition of roofed access to all buildings and a renovation of the buffet restaurant. The entire project is expected to wrap up in 2014.
