The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority is looking for development teams to finance and build two midpriced hotels near the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Earlier this year, the MCCA bought 5.6 acres of land on D Street, three of which will be used for the 400- to 500-room projects. "We have set the bar very high," said MCCA Executive Director James E. Rooney, "but we also think we’re providing a great opportunity." The proposals are due Jan. 7, 2013; the MCCA is aiming to break ground by late 2013, with openings scheduled for 2015. The two properties might share facilities such as fitness rooms, kitchens and service areas. The MCCA is requiring that the hotels have leasable retail or restaurant space.
