The Massachusetts Port Authority and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority have jointly issued a request for qualifications from parties interested in developing, financing, constructing and operating a 1,000-room headquarters hotel on two Massport-owned tracts near the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The RFQ also includes another 200 rooms either in the headquarters hotel or in a second property. "This marks one of the final steps needed to help push Boston and Massachusetts into the top five convention and meeting destinations in North America," said James E. Rooney, executive director of the MCCA. "Not only will this new headquarters hotel help make Boston a more convenient destination, but by building more hotels near the BCEC, we free up hotel rooms around the Hynes Convention Center, allowing our prize-winning facilities to serve more events."
