There currently are 196 hotel projects totaling 19,909 rooms in the works in Canada, an increase of 3.9 percent from the same time last year, according to the March 2012 STR/McGraw Hill Construction Dodge Pipeline Report. Among chain segments, luxury hotels experienced the largest increase in rooms in the total active pipeline, rising 255.5 percent over March 2011 numbers, to 711 rooms. The report also noted that Canada also is seeing "a significant push" in the upper-midscale hotel segment, with a 10 percent increase in supply.
