Chaminade Resort & Spa in Santa Cruz, Calif., has completed a $7.9 million room remodel. The Mission-style property transformed all 156 guest rooms, suites, bathrooms and corridors to feature a more eclectic, bohemian style reflective of Santa Cruz's past, and vibrant arts and culture scene.
Vintage-themed accents include life-sized abacus headboards and minibar cabinets that resemble antique refrigerators. Vintage games have been woven into the design concept, with oversized dominoes representing room numbers and giant crossword puzzles painted throughout the corridors.
Perhaps the most noteworthy element added to select guest rooms is the tranquil meditation alcove.
"One of the main reasons we incorporated meditation alcoves into select rooms is to allow our guests to maintain their daily meditation rituals and practices. The meditation mats were carefully selected for the alcoves and are inspired by traditional Japanese Zabuton cushions which are commonly used in Zen meditation," said General Manager Kevin Herbst.
The property, which features 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space approved by the International Association of Conference Centers, is rolling out various packages and programs based on mindfulness and the meditation alcoves, including a Mindful Meetings Package. Elements of the Mindful Meetings package include a guided meditation at the start and end of each day's meeting; menus created by the executive chef with the meeting planner's input; and guided afternoon hikes on Chaminade's three miles of scenic nature trails.
