Perini Building Co., CityCenter's primary general contractor, intends to sue the Las Vegas development, claiming it is owed $492 million, according to a document filed last week by MGM Mirage with the Securities and Exchange Commission. CityCenter's owners -- MGM Mirage and Dubai World -- believe that debt to be substantially less, according to the SEC filing. What's more, the building's owners believe they might have even more significant counterclaims against the contractors concerning defects discovered in the construction of the Harmon Hotel by building inspectors last year. (The Harmon's opening, originally scheduled for 2009, has been delayed indefinitely. The hotel also will be 20 floors shorter than planned, in part because of those construction defects.)
