San Francisco's iconic Clift Hotel has joined the Sonesta Hotels portfolio. The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel, as it is now known, is a neighborhood fixture, having originally opened in 1915 in the city's Union Square neighborhood. The property features 372 guest rooms, a classic lobby with design elements from Philippe Starck and others, and a number of classic gathering places.
Those spaces include the historic Redwood Room, an elegant bar and restaurant paneled with the wood of a single redwood tree. The Velvet Room, meanwhile, was designed to complement the Redwood Room, and offers a likewise elegant space for breakfast or afternoon and evening corporate meetings and events. The Living Room lounge, evocative of an old English pub, is just off the lobby. All told, the property offers more than 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

Guest rooms, which range from studio suites to a full private apartment, include entertainment centers and high-speed WiFi. Guests have complimentary use of bicycles and a 24-hour fitness center, as well as access to a neighboring full-service fitness club with a swimming pool.

The hotel is Sonesta's first in San Francisco and second in the Bay Area, following the 236-room Sonesta Silicon Valley San Jose. The brand has more than 80 properties in seven countries.
