Construction began last week on a $34 million, 172-room Courtyard by Marriott at Philadelphia's Navy Yard, the first hotel at the revitalized site, which has lured more than 120 companies and nearly 10,000 employees. "This new development will serve the demand of the companies and people located there and will provide a boost for the local economy," said Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter in a statement. The property will include 2,000 square feet of meeting space, an upscale restaurant and lounge, and a fitness center. The hotel is expected to be LEED certified and should open in late 2013.
